The questions people ask most — about safety, privacy, what Dr HAPPO can and can't do, and what happens to your words after you say them. If you don't see your question, write to hello@happo.app — we read every message.
Getting started
What is HAPPO?
HAPPO is a mental-health support app you can talk to — via voice or text, in nine languages, any hour. Dr HAPPO is the friendly hippo who listens. She’s built on a stack of voice biomarkers, emotion analysis, and care-trained language models — but the experience is meant to feel like talking to a kind, patient friend, not a piece of software.
HAPPO is not a therapist and never claims to be. If you need clinical care, she’ll help you find a real human one.
Who is HAPPO for?
Three groups, roughly: adults who want a private place to talk; families with kids aged 7+ who could use a kind ear; and schools, clinics, or workplaces that want to provide wellbeing support at scale.
Whichever you are, the door is the same — just pick your lane on the landing page.
Do I need to sign up to try it?
No card, no email required for the first short conversation. You can be talking to Dr HAPPO in under a minute. To save your conversation history or use voice analysis, you’ll be asked to make a free account.
What devices does HAPPO work on?
iOS 16+, Android 12+, and any modern desktop browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge). Voice features need microphone access, which we ask for the first time you use them.
Privacy & data
Who can read my conversations with Dr HAPPO?
Nobody but you. Conversations are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3) with a key derived from your account password. Our employees cannot read your messages, even if they wanted to. We physically cannot share them with anyone.
Exception: if Dr HAPPO detects an imminent safety risk (active suicidal intent, ongoing abuse), she’ll surface emergency resources to you and — if you’re a child on a family plan — alert your parent with general context only.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers. We do not run third-party trackers on the app. We don’t analyse your conversations to improve generic models. Privacy is the default; it is not a setting.
How do I delete my conversations?
From your settings: tap "Delete history" → confirm. Conversations leave our active servers immediately and our backups within 72 hours. Account deletion is in the same place; it removes everything, including your sparkle balance.
Where is my data stored?
Singapore (asia-southeast1, GKE). An EU mirror is coming in Q3 2026 for European users. We do not store data in mainland China or the United States. Audit reports available on request for Team-plan customers.
Safety & crisis
What if I’m in crisis?
If you’re in immediate danger, please call your local emergency line. HAPPO is not a crisis service. Dr HAPPO will recognise crisis language and surface country-appropriate hotlines (Samaritans of Thailand, TELL Japan, etc.) within seconds. She’ll also stay with you while you reach out.
Thailand: Department of Mental Health hotline 1323 (free, 24/7). Japan: TELL Lifeline 03-5774-0992. Global: findahelpline.com.
Can Dr HAPPO diagnose me?
No — and she won’t pretend to. Voice biomarkers and emotion analysis are context, not diagnoses. Dr HAPPO will never tell you "you have anxiety" or "you have depression." If you want a clinical assessment, please see a clinician. She’ll happily help you find one.
What happens if a child says something concerning?
On family plans, Dr HAPPO escalates immediately to the parent via in-app alert + email — with general context ("Your child mentioned feeling unsafe today; please check in") but never the specific words. The child is also offered direct hotline access. We talked to a lot of kids while designing this; transparency about parental alerts is part of the system.
Pricing & billing
How much does HAPPO cost?
Free forever, with 100 sparkles per week. Personal is ฿700/month. Family is ฿2,700/month for up to 6 accounts. Team is custom. See full pricing →
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — instantly, from your settings, no calls or emails required. You keep access until the end of your current billing period.
What if I can’t afford a plan?
Email hello@happo.app. We have a quiet hardship programme — no questions asked, no income proof required. Mental health support shouldn’t depend on your bank balance.
Do you take Apple Pay / Google Pay / international cards?
Yes to all three, plus Thai PromptPay and major Asian payment networks (LINE Pay, GrabPay, KakaoPay). International Visa/Mastercard/Amex work everywhere we ship.
Family plan
What does the parental dashboard actually show me?
Weekly trends, never transcripts. You see: mood patterns over the week, sleep quality, whether your child has been engaging with Dr HAPPO, and which practices they’ve been using. You do not see what they say — that’s sacred.
The only exception is safety alerts (see "What happens if a child says something concerning?" above).
What age is HAPPO appropriate for?
7 and up. Below 7, kids generally don’t engage productively with text-based AI. Above 18 they should be on a personal plan, not a child account. Teens (13–17) get the same privacy protections as adults plus a more transparent parental-alert system.
Can I add more than 4 children?
Family plan covers 1 parent + 4 children. If you have more, the easiest path is to add a second family plan, or contact us about a custom multi-family arrangement.
Languages
What languages does HAPPO support?
At launch (May 2026): English, ไทย (Thai), 中文 (Chinese, simplified and traditional), 日本語 (Japanese), 한국어 (Korean), Bahasa (Indonesian + Malay), हिन्दी (Hindi), Français (French), Español (Spanish).
Coming in v2.0: Vietnamese, Tagalog, Tamil. Coming later: Arabic, Portuguese (BR).
Can I switch languages mid-conversation?
Yes. Dr HAPPO follows you — switch in your settings, or just start typing in another language and she’ll match you. Voice mode auto-detects spoken language as well.
Are voice biomarkers calibrated per language?
Yes. Tonal languages (Thai, Mandarin, Vietnamese) have different pitch baselines than non-tonal ones. Our biomarker models are calibrated per-language to avoid false positives on the tonal swings that are just… tonal swings.
Technical
What LLMs do you use?
Fine-tuned HAPPO.ai-class models for conversation, Whisper for voice transcription, and a small in-house biomarker classifier built on openSMILE. Conversation mode does not call external LLM providers — everything runs in our own infrastructure.
Is HAPPO open source?
Some of it. Our voice-biomarker pipeline is open source at github.com/happo/voice-biomarker (Apache 2.0). The conversation models, training data, and Dr HAPPO’s care logic are proprietary. We may open-source more over time.
Do you have an API?
Not yet publicly. Team-plan customers can request a webhook-based API for aggregate analytics. A broader public API is on the roadmap for late 2026.
Where can I report a bug?
Inside the app: settings → "Send feedback." Or email bugs@happo.app. We read every report. Security disclosures: security@happo.app — we run a quiet bug-bounty programme; details on request.
Just ask Dr HAPPO.
She's online right now. Or if you'd rather a human, write to hello@happo.app — we read every message.
